Senior Vice President-Affordable Housing Management
Sonya M. Brown is currently Senior Vice President of Affordable Housing Management of National Church Residences. She assumed this role July 1, 2022.
Sonya joined the organization 18 years ago, starting out as a Property Manager in 2004, before being promoted over the years to several Regional Leadership and Vice President roles. Prior to this recent promotion, she served as VP of Property Management since April of 2020.
Her tenure has included leading a team of over 800 site employees, across 23 states and 350 communities. She has oversight of Regional Managers, Directors and Vice Presidents. Her operational expertise extends to a variety of housing program types, including LIHTC, market rate, PRAC, Section 8/202/236, RAD, Combo, Housing Choice, and PBV.
She is a graduate of St. Louis University with a BS in Finance and Marketing. Professionally, she serves the boards for Missouri Housing and Development Commission (advisory), the Heartland Management Association, the National Affordable Housing Management Association (DC), and the Urban Land Institute_ Columbus, OH (advisory).
She is a member of other industry organizations including Leading Age, IREM, MoAHA, and holds industry accreditations including the HCCP, SCHM, COS, and TCS designations.
Personally, and as a theatre aficianado, she also serves as Vice Chair of Finance for a local Columbus based theatre group board, CATCO.
Sonya has an adult son who lives in Washington, DC, working in commercial real estate development. She is a lifelong resident of St. Louis, MO, but she recently relocated to the Columbus, OH area in 2020.
