Rev. Chris Wheatley

Presbyterian Homes and Services

Senior Director of Pastoral Care Services

Chris is the son, nephew, and brother of pastors from different Lutheran denominations. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, where he wrote his thesis on death and mortality in the thought of Soren Kierkegaard. He has served as a parish pastor in northern Minnesota and as a chaplain within various hospitals, Veterans’ Affairs, an HIV/AIDS house, and two hospices, one of which he helped create.  He currently supports over sixty pastors and chaplains within Presbyterian Homes and Services. He and his wife spend their personal lives perpetually outnumbered by cats and Dobermans.

Geriatric Spirituality

Aging means change and nothing is exempt, not even our faith. Discovering that challenges and opportunities seniors face when it comes to issues of faith is what we call Geriatric Spirituality. Learning how to minister effectively and appropriately to an aging population is a core competency for Chaplains at National Church Residences.

Spiritual Care vs Pastoral Care

Pastors, Priests, Rabbis and Imams are titles we might be familiar with but what about Chaplain? Do you how they are different? At National Church Residences we have a goal to provide Chaplaincy services at every location, what does that mean, what can we expect, what shouldn’t we expect?
